Pros:The HP Folio 13?has everything that matters most in an ultrabook: very good laptop batteries life, an excellent backlit keyboard, all the requisite ports for mobile use, and a very comfortable feel, along with a competitive entry-level price.


Cons:The Folio 13 is no looker compared with other ultrabooks, and is a bit thicker and heavier than thin laptops such as the MacBook Air. The clickpad's just a bit too finicky for our tastes, too.


Summary:When it comes to Windows ultrabooks, the HP Folio 13 is the best of the bunch in terms of performance, price, and ergonomics, provided you can live with a less-than-razor-thin design. This laptop is targeted at small businesses but it's really for anyone who wants a reliable ultrabook that isn't a MacBook Air.

1. I've had this computer for a week and I'm pleased with my purchase. I looked at a number of ultrabooks and this seemed to have the best mix of what I was looking for--inputs, processor, size, etc. It's definitely a little heavier than other available ultrabooks, but I also think it feels more sturdy, which I appreciate. And it's such a slight difference that I don't think anyone would notice when it's in a bag or backpack. The screen is great. I don't agree with other reviews that say it appears a bit muted. What is true from other reviews I've read is that the touchpad is a bit stiff and doesn't offer much customization. This is my main issue, but it's certainly not a deal breaker. I assume I will adapt to fa90pe1-00. Also, it revs a little high at times. It's not loud, but other machines are quieter.


2. Great machine. Solid feel while still thin and (relatively) light. Some netbooks may be smaller and lighter, but this is an i5 128 GB SSD full bore business machine. Fast sleep and start up modes, resulting in good battery life. As others have accurately commented, the screen could use an anti-reflective surface and the touchpad buttons are too stiff. Fan does seem to run constantly and is not silent, but not really noticeable in normal use. Haven't tried to use it for gaming, but for all around business use and travel, ha90pe1-00 is close to a perfect machine.

3. Several issues right out of the box. Laptop would not charge with charger plugged in. Spent 3 hours with tech support before I fixed the problem myself by updating the motherboard firmware. Issues with wi-fi; laptop won't reconnect to wi-fi when waking from sleep mode so I have to manually reconnect each time. Tech support tells me that its a problem with my router but the issue happens no matter whose network I'm on. I would not recommend this item to anyone until HP works out the bugs.

4. I couldn't be happier with the HP Folio 13. It is lightweight, fast, and has long battery life. I also love the keyboard.

I recently took 3 back-to-back business trips with several airlines. Even in cramped quarters, I was able to work and entertain myself with ease. I lowered the screen brightness during a very long day and got even more battery life than I thought possible laptop adapter.

My co-worker has a MacBook Air. We compared the form factor and were surprised that for the same size screen, the HP Folio was actually a little shorter when the screen was up -- this means that it takes up less room on the airplane tray table.
